Research background
Semaglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist structurally based on human GLP-1 (94% homology), modified with amino-acid substitutions and a C18 fatty-acid chain that confers albumin binding and resistance to DPP-4 degradation. It is studied as a stabilized analog of the native incretin.
The compound has an extensive randomized controlled evidence base (the SUSTAIN, PIONEER, and STEP programs) characterizing its metabolic activity.
