Research background

Semax is a synthetic peptide based on a fragment (residues 4-10) of adrenocorticotropic hormone modified for metabolic stability. It has been studied for neuroprotection- and cognition-related effects, with proposed mechanisms including regulation of BDNF and its receptor TrkB and modulation of monoaminergic signaling.

The research literature, largely Russian in origin, includes rodent models of cerebral ischemia and cognition. Evidence remains predominantly preclinical.
