Research background
Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone acting as a non-selective melanocortin-receptor agonist (MC1R and MC4R). Research has examined melanocortin signaling, including effects on melanogenesis mediated by MC1R.
Melanotan II is a research compound without an approved indication; it is structurally related to the MC1R-selective agent afamelanotide.
