Background

KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide (lysine-proline-valine) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It has been studied for anti-inflammatory activity that appears to be independent of melanocortin receptors, with proposed intracellular actions on NF-kB signaling and uptake via the peptide transporter PepT1 in intestinal epithelium.

Preclinical models of colitis and inflammation form the bulk of the evidence; KPV is a research compound without an approved indication.
