Research background
Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone composed of an alpha subunit (shared with LH, FSH, TSH) and a hormone-specific beta subunit. It acts at the LH/CG receptor and is studied in reproductive endocrinology; it is also the analyte targeted by pregnancy assays.
HCG biology and clinical use are well established in reproductive medicine.
