Research background
Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a synthetic linear tridecapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone with selective potency at the MC1 receptor, the principal regulator of eumelanin synthesis. Research describes MC1R-mediated melanogenesis and photoprotection.
Afamelanotide has completed clinical development for the rare photodermatosis erythropoietic protoporphyria.
