Research background

Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is an endogenous 28-amino-acid neuropeptide of the secretin/glucagon superfamily, acting through the VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors. Research describes broad signaling roles including smooth-muscle relaxation, immune modulation, and neuroendocrine regulation.

VIP biology is well documented in physiology; therapeutic applications of exogenous VIP remain investigational.
